10 Activities to Make Your Sleepover Party Unforgettable

Writer's picture: Erica GreenErica Green

A right of passage for any child is a sleepover party with their friends. However, as a parent, the task of planning and executing a sleepover party may be overwhelming! Always try to plan an activity or two that fits the party theme. It makes the sleepover and celebration feel more cohesive. However, if you’re stuck for ideas or just don’t have the bandwidth to create something unique, choose any of the following activities for an unforgettable sleepover party.

Arts & Crafts

Creating something artsy is an ideal sleepover party activity. It gives the guests something to do while also creating an experience and memory. And it’s a built in party favor! Right now, friendship bracelets are all the rage because of the Eras tour. Other popular craft ideas include creating t-shirts, coloring a pillowcase with fabric markers or designing eye masks.

Spa

A classic sleepover party activity is setting up a spa station. Keep it simple with manis and pedis or go all out with robes and facials. Either way the birthday girl and her friends will feel pampered and special. Also, depending on the age, the girls can take turns painting each other's nails.

Karaoke & Lip Sync

Karaoke is a party favorite for any age. Now, there are several apps such as StarMaker you can download and use with a smart tv. However, if you were like me and couldn’t carry a tune, lip syncing to your favorite songs is always a fun alternative. Create a fun playlist and let them sing the night away! And don’t forget the ear plugs for yourself!

Make a Movie

This is a great activity for kids that are a little older. Encourage them to think of an idea, assign parts and let the acting begin. They could be a classroom full of misbehaving kids with a teacher or a group of friends at summer camp. The ideas are endless! They can use an app like iMovie to put all their scenes together and watch in the morning.

Talent Show

Let’s face it…kids love to perform. This activity guests should know about prior to the party so they can bring any items they might need. A fun twist on a talent show idea, that doesn’t require advanced notice, is to ask the kids to think of weird talents. It could be burping the alphabet, bottle flipping, pen spinning or playing air guitar. The more unusual the better!

Scavenger Hunt

This does require some prep work on your end to create and set up. You can create your own clues or there are several online scavenger hunts you can download, print and save time on the creation side. Etsy is a great resource for fun scavenger hunts for kids.

Dance Party

A dance party has been a sleepover party favorite for decades. Create a fun playlist of favorite songs and the guest can dance the night away! Another “old school” sleepover favorite is creating a synchronized dance routine. We all did this at sleepovers when I was kid! Add glow sticks or a disco ball to take the dancing up a level.

Minute to Win it Games

There are so many options for minute to win it games! This will require some prep before the party to gather supplies. Some of my personal favorites are cookie face, junk in the trunk and look ma, no hands. Some minute to win it games are messy so either avoid those or consider playing outside.

Classic Games

Classic sleepover party games include charades, truth or dare and would you rather. These are pretty easy for sleepover party guests to handle on their own, but you may want to caution them to keep the dares mild.

Movies

A movie marathon is an absolute must for any sleepover party. Consider shorter flicks to keep the night rolling. And remember younger party guests may not have the patience to sit through multiple movies or even one! Steer clear of scary movies so guests don’t have nightmares and can fall sleep.
